I’m Curious to Know—Stacy Fisher
To expand this space for continual growth and contribute to the experience of individuals living in inspiration, I’ve started a new interview series, I'm Curious to Know.
I’ve always loved reading other people’s stories of growth and creativity, and by showcasing creative people who have followed their curiosity to more enjoyable pursuits, I want to also help you discover the joy in pursuing your own curiosity in life.
Today, I’d like to introduce you to Stacy Fisher of Every September, photographer of bebes, bungalows, and breezy lifestyles … and of designers like myself! =)
What was the ONE thing that called you to pursue this venture, and where, if physically, did you feel this calling?
I’d have to say that my blog (est. 2012) is what really pushed me to explore lifestyle photography. When I couldn’t find the right photos for my posts, I dusted off my camera and started creating my own original images. This is when everything changed for me. I found so much more freedom in what I could share—ideas and possibilities felt limitless.
Is there a connection of this curiosity to your childhood, or is this something you discovered later in life? Please describe.
Photos weren’t really a big deal in my family growing up. We had a polaroid camera that was barely used, mostly saved for holidays and other milestones. But I’ve always wished we had more natural, candid shots to look back on.
Now with a daughter of my own, I make an effort to be more mindful of the details that make our house a home and do my best to capture those sweet, fleeting moments (without overdoing it!). This love for documenting the everyday is what led me to helping other families press pause.
What was your greatest fear in pursuing lifestyle photography, and do you feel you've overcome that fear?
My greatest fear is that a client won’t be 100% happy with the photos I deliver. But over time, I’ve learned to remind myself that my style is exactly why clients choose me in the first place.
What is your ULTIMATE vivid vision for your photography career—or your life—if you dare to share it with us?
Well, this is a big question but the ultimate vision for my life is to find that perfect balance between fulfilling hard work and chill time with my loves. I’m working towards becoming the healthiest version of myself, both physically and mentally, and hope that this will lead me in the right direction. Self-care comes first and I believe keeping a clear head can only help me in my creative endeavors.
But to answer your question more specifically, I’d love to work with more beautiful families, capturing all kinds of dreamy memories that they’ll cherish forever. Oh, and I envision myself editing photos and blogging away in my bright and airy home office that I custom designed myself ;)
What is one thing you would advise others who are interested in pursuing their curiosity to new ventures?
My advice to others pursuing a new venture has 2 parts:
First, daydream like crazy, jot down all the pros, perks, benefits, etc. free association style. Consider all the things that inspire your passion, ignore any roadblocks because the sky’s the limit at this point, and just let your pen go!
Then, get organized. Plan mini goals as well as big, scary goals in advance. Give yourself deadlines and find a way to keep yourself in check.
What brings you the greatest joy during difficult moments?
Taking a break. I mean really unplugging and stepping out for fresh air or soaking in a hot bath. Clearing my head always answers my own questions and reminds me to spend more of that precious QT with my friends and family.
