The Evening Glow—Cherishing Simple Pleasures
Photographers call it the magic hour. That short time of day when the sun is preparing to rest and its light gleams across the sky in a perfect golden hue. As the seasons change the exact time may differ, but as a young girl I remember that period just after 4pm, as I walked with my hand in my grandmother’s heading to our early evening play time in the park. For me, that was my magic hour.
It was the calmness of the evening, people heading home to rest and be with their families. The end of a work day when the mind relaxes and wanders with possibilities of what may come. As a little girl, my only desires were the feeling of soaring through the sky as I let me feet glide back and forth swinging from the hanging seats.
I was present. Appreciating every sensation in that moment, as simple as it may have been, just me and my grandma, and the evening glow.
With Day-light savings just having gone into effect, being able to wake up earlier in the morning and appreciating the sunrise's warm radiance reminds me of those simple pleasures as a child. What is a simple pleasure you cherish in the present or as a memory? Please, share with me in the comments below.
